Albania

Alan and I are on the move again! We're going to Albania....but just for a week.  We've been invited to go with Stephano and Rina to a camp in Albania.  This is a Christian camp for families in Albania.  There will be people there from all over Albania, and we're told that we will be meeting some other Americans who are doing mission work in Albania.  Stephano and Rina are both teaching classes at this camp for families.  Alan and I will be going along to meet with the Christians and missionaries there.  We'll be helping out in any way possible, and just getting to fellowship with others.

I'm writing this blog in advance, because this was an unexpected expense that we do not have budgeted.  However, since we have no classes or obligations during this time in August (1st-13th), we felt that going with Stephano and his family to help and to meet others would be a good experience.

The expenses for this trip in total are $600.  If you are interested in helping us with the expenses for this particular trip, we would greatly appreciate it.  Westside church of Christ in Searcy, AR (our supporting congregation) is aware of this trip.  If anyone is interested in making a donation, please address a check to Westside church of Christ, and put in the memo "Kirby Albania." Just a quick update on our work here (there's a more detailed blog coming this weekend I hope): Alan and I taught 5 classes this week.  We have a new student, and we've had interest from three other people who say they want to start in September.  We've been busy walking the streets of Catania in the mornings to get to know it better and to also pass our advertisements for our classes.  Please pray for us in our efforts to meet new people here and to build relationships with those we meet! Thank you again for all your support!

Lessons, Learning, and Life

This year is flying for us! We loved getting to catch up with Laura and Sara at the convegno We started the year of right by going to Florence for the New Years to meet the new Avanti Directors and workers and to participate in the regional youth convegno held there.  It was a very uplifting and encouraging experience meeting with the new workers, and getting to spend time with some of our young Italian friends who we don't get to see very often in Sicily. This was the first convegno of it's kind in that the youth themselves organized it. They focused on the topic of evangelization. Daily devotionals covered topics such as "How to evangelize to friends," "How to evangelize to people different from us," and "How to evangelize to the foreigner." Each day there was an activity to help implicate the lesson/devotional from the day. One day they spent at the church building playing games and meeting students of the Avanti Workers. Sicilian Summers

Summer has arrived in Sicily. It is hot! There are actually lots of little fires popping up all over the city lately because of the hot winds. Also, unfortunately this year the sea around Catania is dirty from what they think are boat spills, so no going to the beach to cool off yet; unless we go out of town, which doesn't happen too often with two littles. So far this has been a very busy summer for us. Usually, summers slow down as most of our students decide to take a break because of vacations and such.  However, this year most of our students are still coming every week. That being said, next week we decided will be our last week to teach for the summer, as everyone (including us) is usually gone for the most part of August and it's just too hot to teach.
